Isn't she lovely [mother nature]

I was talking to my brothers about environmental issues a little while back, and as I'm sitting here doing some government homework, an idea struck me pertaining to both.

["power cannot be exercised on the basis of tradition"] - ("American Government", James Wilson/John J. DiIulio Jr, pg. 22)

Humanity knows change, we've studied history, we know it is inevitable. But when it comes to certain situations we ignore [or maybe forget] that fact.

Lets take the environmental stand point, shall we?
The world has been adapting to lifeforms throughout all time. Micro-organisms to present day humans, species have come and gone [survival of the fittest]. So why are we so shocked now, with global warming? Did we expect civilization to live without any effect on this earth or need for change? We've seen time after time, the world mold, it is bounded by the cause and effect nature of our environment. And still with this common knowledge we are shocked change when necessary.

I see the earth as a human body. They parallel quite flawlessly. Lets take the changing temperature, some may say "Oh its only a few degrees, it doesn't change anything". But I digress. The earth is just as fragile as the human body, a slight change in degrees is the difference between life and death.

Nature is so powerful, so vast, that we forget how delicate it actually is. Something as simple as cutting down a couple trees can change a setting for centuries. Those trees were set there for a reason, to block the sun, absorb the rain, shelter the surrounding lifeforms. When those trees are taken way, the soil could flood or dry up [due to major sun exposure] the surrounding organisms loose a form of shelter, causing population to dwindle, unbalancing the surrounding populations food wise, If the deceased organism was a predator of incests for example, the absence of said organism could cause an influx of insects, that maybe attack the surrounding areas, destroy crop off setting the surroundings even further.

To sum it up, every action calls for an equal or opposite reaction...
cause and effect
light and dark
life and death

Can you now see the beauty of living harmoniously with the planet?
Could you imagine self sufficient homes? Powered by the sun, water filtered through rooftop gardens into the pluming, natural, recycled, biodegradable containers, clothing. Skylights for natural light, walls that breath in the cool air, high ceilings with thin windows naturally heating and cooling our homes.

Oh a beautiful life...
